Description from the seller
What are Arhats? Arhats (Luohans in Chinese) are enlightened monks in Buddhism who have attained nirvana.
The Eighteen Arhats are specific disciples of the Buddha who were designated to preserve the dharma (the teaching) until the coming of the future Buddha Maitreya.
Material: Boxwood (huangyang), highly valued for its fine texture, warm honey-colored patina, and suitability for detailed carving
Composition: The arhats are depicted in a vivid mountainous landscape with clouds, pines, and rocks - typical of Chinese religious iconography
Dynamism/Expression: Each arhat has unique features, poses, and attributes (staff, scroll, dragon) that tell their individual stories
