Description from the seller
Asahi Sonorama Photo Selection Series No.1
Hiroshi Hamaya - Yukiguni (Snow Land) - 1978 Second Edition
A masterpiece by one of Japan's greatest photographers, Hiroshi Hamaya (1915-1999).
This is the revised and redesigned edition of his iconic 1956 photobook "Yukiguni" (originally published by Mainichi Shimbun). It was released as the very first volume of Asahi Sonorama's prestigious "Sonorama Photo Selection" series.
This specific copy is the **1978 Second Edition**, following the 1977 first edition of the series. Hamaya, who documented Japanese landscapes and rural life for decades, powerfully captures the harsh yet beautiful "Ura Nihon" (Japan Sea side) — particularly the snowy regions of Niigata and Echigo. The images portray resilient villagers, snow-covered settlements, and everyday scenes with both documentary strength and lyrical sensitivity.
CONDITION
The book has slight sun fading on the spine of the jacket. There are some foxing on the endpapers and the top edge. Overall, it is in very good condition.
