Aquamarine specimens are highly sought after by collectors for their distinctive hexagonal crystal structure and serene blue-to-greenish-blue hues. These natural beryl crystals often form in granitic pegmatites and are frequently found on a matrix of muscovite mica, feldspar, or quartz.

Significant deposits are located in Northern Pakistan (particularly the Shigar and Nagar Valleys), Brazil, and Madagascar. High-quality specimens are prized for their transparency, lustrous terminations, and saturated "sea water" color.
