Description from the seller
Open-Shelf Sideboard "Buffet" in Carved Oak - Renaissance Style - Late 19th Century
Splendid and impressive open-sideboard (buffet) crafted in solid oak (or walnut), richly hand-carved. The piece stands out for the exceptional quality of the carvings, which fuse Renaissance repertory elements with the opulent taste of the late nineteenth century.
Artistic Details:
Monumental Frieze: The upper section is dominated by a substantial pierced frieze with foliate scrolls framing a finely sculpted female face (mascherone).
Central Body: Beneath the main top are two front drawers, also decorated with relief motifs and equipped with original handles in bronzed/brushed brass of a flowing, sinuous shape.
Supports and Shelves: The structure rests on front bracket-like uprights richly worked with scroll and acanthus leaf motifs, which support two wide open shelves, ideal for displaying ceramics or art objects.
Base: The piece ends with a solid, moulded base that ensures stability and imposing presence.
Conditions:
The furniture is presented in overall excellent conservation condition. It shows the natural signs of time that attest to its age and originality (small patinas or slight superficial wear). The structure is solid; the drawers slide correctly.
