Description from the seller
A rare and finely preserved Leica MD-2 Black Post with a Leica Summicron 1:2/35 (Canada version). There are only small quantities of these specific “Post” versions produced, which makes them a coveted item for the discerning Leica collector.
In a time when automation was still in its infancy, postal and telecom companies (such as the PTT) relied on Leica's rugged technology to record telephone meter readings. These cameras were not used for holiday snapshots, but were precision instruments that worked day in and day out in a fixed setup.
Rare "Post" Modifications:
Fixed Focus: Often equipped with a special 35mm lens with a fixed focus setting (e.g., 60 cm) and a fixed aperture for consistent results.
Locked Shutter: The shutter is fixed at 1/500.
Cable Release: The shutter can often only be operated with a cable or soft touch, attesting to its use in scientific or industrial setups.
Shutter cloth is in fine condition. The lens is clear and has no fungus haze or scratches. The front curvature of the lens shows signs of wear. The photos form a cohesive whole with the description.
Exclusivity: There are only small quantities of these specific "Post" versions produced, making them a coveted item for the serious Leica collector.
