Description from the seller
EGYPT. 1 Qirsh. AH1293/33. Abdul Hamid II (1876-1909)
- Value: 1 Qirsh.
- Reign: Abdul Hamid II (1876-1909).
- Year: AH1293/33.
- Inscriptions: Obverse: imperial tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II with the Arabic inscription of the Ottoman sultan and the formula “El-Ghazi.” Reverse: face value within a vegetal crown with Arabic inscriptions and the Islamic date accompanied by the year of reign, topped with a crescent and star.
- Grading: UNC Details (NGC).
Ottoman Egyptian silver coin that features on the obverse the characteristic calligraphic tughra of Sultan Abdul Hamid II, of elegant Islamic style and fluid strokes, occupying the center of the field with well-defined ornamental elements. The reverse shows the face value within a symmetric vegetal crown, with the Arabic inscriptions and the Islamic date accompanied by the year of reign, crowned by crescent and star. The reliefs are preserved sharp and the design maintains good overall presence, with residual lustre visible in the fields. The coin has been cleaned in the past, a circumstance noted by the grader, though it retains an attractive appearance and full details typical of a specimen without circulation. Historically it belongs to the final period of Ottoman rule over Egypt, when monetary issues kept the imperial iconography of the sultan.
