This original German traffic sign is a powerful example of functional graphic design from the latter half of the twentieth century. The sign clearly prohibits stopping or parking – a traffic measure applied at places where stopping vehicles for safety or traffic flow reasons is not allowed.

The design is typical of modern European traffic signaling: a minimalist, high-contrast pictogram that is understandable at a glance. The stylized vehicle with a clear cross-mark illustrates the prohibition of standing or parking and was applied at locations where vehicles could obstruct passage or safety.

The sign is made of sturdy metal and designed for long-term use in public spaces. On the back is a quality sticker bearing the RAL seal of approval “Güte Verkehrszeichen.” The RAL Institute was founded in Germany in 1925 and developed quality standards for industrial products.
