Pair of Hand-Painted Religious Icons on Skeleton Bodhi Leaves - 20th Century
A unique pair of folk art religious paintings, delicately crafted using the traditional technique of painting on natural Bodhi leaves (Ficus religiosa). This set features two iconic Christian subjects: the Madonna and Child and the Sacred Heart of Jesus.
The leaves have been professionally "skeletonized" to remove the chlorophyll, leaving behind a fine, lace-like network of veins. This transparent canvas provides a diaphanous quality to the artwork, which is mounted on a black background to make the colors pop.
