Joe Colombo (Cesare Colombo, Milan 1930 - 1971) was a renowned Italian designer and architect, known for his visionary and futuristic style, characterized by the use of new materials, dynamic furniture systems, and global housing solutions. His career, though short, left an indelible mark on international design, winning numerous awards including the Compasso d'Oro in 1967.
His creations are icons of Italian design and many are part of the permanent collections of museums such as MoMA in New York: Acrylic Lamp (gold medal at the XIII Triennale 1964); Spider Lamp (Compasso d'Oro in 1967); Tube Chair (permanent collection of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs of the Louvre); Boby Cart (SMAU award and part of MoMA's permanent collection); Plastic Chair for Kartell (injection-molded in 1968)
