Description from the seller
Up for auction is a genuine Nakamichi RX-202E. If you are looking at this, you likely already know the legend: this is the deck that physically turns the tape around to maintain perfect head alignment. It’s a mechanical marvel that remains one of the most entertaining pieces of kit to watch in a dark room.
Testing & Performance:
I have personally put this unit through its paces to ensure it’s ready for a new home.
The UDAR (Auto-Reverse) mechanism is snappy and smooth; it ejects, flips, and re-loads exactly as it did in the 80s.
Forward and Rewind are strong, without the sluggishness you often find in decks that have been sitting for years.
Playback and Recording have been tested and sound fantastic—crisp highs and that deep, warm analog punch Nakamichi is famous for.
Condition:
The front faceplate is exceptionally clean. All the buttons, the sliders, and that iconic red digital counter look great and feel solid.
Please note that the top metal casing shows some clear surface scratches and scuffs (visible in the photos). While these are purely cosmetic and don't affect the music, I want to be upfront about them. Since the original factory-painted cabinets were discontinued decades ago, this unit wears its history on its sleeve, but the "business end"—the faceplate and the internals—is where this machine really shines.
Technical Highlights:
Type: 2-head, single compact cassette deck.
Voltage: 220V (European Model).
Features: Dolby B/C, Master Fader, and the incomparable Unidirectional Auto-Reverse.
This is a "plug-and-play" opportunity to own a piece of hi-fi history that still performs at a high level.
