Andy Warhol (1928-1987) was een toonaangevende figuur van de Pop Art, bekend om het transformeren van alledaagse beelden— reclame, beroemdheden, consumentenproducten-tot enkele van de meest herkenbare werken van de 20e eeuw. Zijn innovatieve gebruik van silkscreen-printing, gedurfde kleurenpaletten en seriale herhaling daagden traditionele ideeën over beeldende kunst uit en vervaagden de grenzen tussen commerciële en hoge cultuur.
