Hanging lamp - Brass, Glass

Large and rare Italian suspended oil lamp (1860-1885), originally designed for the great kitchen of a noble Tuscan villa. Featuring a substantial brass structure supported by three chains and a central ceiling hook, the lamp is fitted with a wide opaline glass shade for diffused light and a globular opaline glass reservoir, with original ceramic elements preserved. Provenance: From the great kitchen of Villa Il Colombaio, Chianti Senese (Italy), formerly the private residence of Countess Isabella Bonucci Ugurgieri della Berardenga and her family. Acquired directly from the owner’s son in 2025. Provenance supported by a signed letter of attestation. Rarity and Significance This piece is particularly rare. Large kitchen oil lamps were used intensively in the service areas of noble residences and, as a result, were often damaged, altered, or partially dismantled over time. Very few examples have survived complete, original, and in excellent condition, making this lamp an exceptional and highly desirable find. Originally oil-lit and later professionally electrified, the lamp retains all its original components and surfaces. Newly rewired and fully functional. The chandelier is in generally very good vintage condition. The brass shows a beautiful, natural patina consistent with age, which has been intentionally preserved. There are minor asymmetries and slight irregularities in the brass, due to the age and hand-finished nature of the piece. These do not affect functionality and are considered part of its authentic character. Though not suggested, if desired, they can be adjusted or corrected; we are happy to do this for you or provide guidance on how to proceed. The main glass shade is in perfect condition, with no cracks or chips. The ceramic element beneath the glass is also in excellent condition. The very small lower ceramic piece was previously broken and professionally restored using white epoxy resin. The restoration is visible upon close inspection, but once the chandelier is installed it is not visible at all, as it is located in an internal area that cannot be seen from below. The chain and top hook are in excellent condition and fully functional. The light bulb shown in the photos is for display purposes only, included solely to demonstrate scale and functionality. Buyers are free to install the bulb of their choice. Power Source Hardwired Fitted with a 4-meter (approx. 13 ft) electrical cable, allowing flexible installation and adjustable hanging height. Electrical Specifications Recommended maximum voltage: 220 V Cord Details The fixture is currently fitted with a visible cord for aesthetic purposes, intentionally left exposed to enhance the visual balance of the piece. Cord color: gold. The total drop can be adjusted as desired during installation.
