Antique wrought iron lock dating to the 17th century (c. 1600–1650), French in origin, with light offset decorative carving on the bolt, measures 15.5 x 15.5 x 2.5 cm, in good condition with some wear and age-related marks.
Description from the seller
Very old lock made of wrought iron and cut, with a light ornamental carving on the bolt. 17th century. This massive mechanism recalls the locks of chests and castle doors from the Middle Ages. It is designed to be opened from both sides.
Locks of this type were made in rural forges to be嶮 embedded into the structure of a large door.
The forged key is beautiful as well. It may not be the original key because it requires forcing to operate the lock, but it is of the same type and from the same period.
Lock: 15.5 cm x 22 cm x 2.5 cm
Key: 14.5 cm x 5.5 cm
This object has been carefully cleaned to reveal the beauty of the wrought metal while preserving its antique patina.
Provenance: northern France, perhaps Normandy.
Domestic and international shipping with secure packaging.
