Dish - Majolica

Elegant and refined majolica dish hand-painted, produced in the first half of the nineteenth century by an ancient Italian workshop in Castelli d’Abruzzo or Naples, with a pastoral scene at the center and the edge richly adorned with flowers and cherubs.
The central scene shows a peasant woman milking a cow, cheered by a male figure playing the flute. The two figures are set in a soft, bright hilly landscape among trees and a blue sky. The edge is rich in decorative elements with flowers, putti, scrolls and shells, elaborated through vivid colors and enamels. The two putti are modeled in a Baroque-like style and reproduce the prototypes of the Grue and Gentili workshops.
On the back the plate shows a small but insignificant glaze flaw, as in the attached photo, and the workshop mark, painted in blue under glaze, with two crossed letters (an A with a D ?) surmounted by a crown.
