Old African statuette depicting a dignitary of the Kuba court, an ancestor of royal blood, whose legs seem to be tucked under a prominent belly. Elaborate motifs form the body scarifications of the subject. These traditional motifs adorned the group's textiles and regalia objects. Worn patina, with a gray-brown hue. The Kuba, located between the Sankuru and Kasai rivers, consist of several tribes such as the Bushoong, Ngeendé, Binji, Wongo, Kété, and so forth. Each of these tribes has produced a variety of sculptures related to kingship, including figures, prestige objects, and masks decorated with geometric motifs.
