Qur'an - Bihar India, a single original Arabic naskh folio dating to circa 1425, in good condition, 1 page, 10 cm by 7.5 cm, with gold ayah markers and a decorative marginal illumination.
Description from the seller
A miniature foliofrom a Quran originating in the state of Bihar, India, circa 1425, with historical repairs to the edges, which do not intrude upon the scripture, but stabilise the folio. The folio contains scripture from Verses 13 and 14 of chapter 61, As-Saff (The Solid Ranks), which provide a concluding promise of victory and a call to action for believers, connecting their struggle to the historical disciples of Jesus (Isa). The Surah focuses on sincerity in faith, urging believers to align their words with actions and to support the cause of Allah. It also contains the illuminated header of chapter 62, Al-Jumu'ah (Friday Congregation) and v.1-5, which focus on the glorification of Allah, the appointment of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) as a messenger to all humanity—particularly to the "unlettered" or "gentiles"—and a firm rebuke to those who were entrusted with the Torah (the Jewish community of that time) but failed to live up to its teachings.
It is written in a Arabic naskh script, with black ink and red diactritical markings to guide the devotee through prayer. In this case there are 17 lines of fine script with gold 'aya' marking the verses and several 'Allah' in gold thuluth font. The folio has a single decorative marginal illuminating the text, making the beginning of a new Chapter.
