Description: Etrog boxes are part of the Jewish Sukkot tradition (Feast of Tabernacles). Over the centuries, silversmiths and craftspeople have made very ornate and beautifully designed etrog boxes, especially for Sukkot. An etrog is a citrus fruit and is part of the so-called Four Species: a palm branch, myrtle twigs, willow twigs, and the etrog. During Sukkot this is all ritually waved (shakoked), one of the highlights of the festival. To protect this precious fruit well, it is therefore stored in a special box or cloth.
