Signed; Marc Chagall - Le plafond de l'Opéra de Paris [with dedication] - 1965

Marc Chagall – Le Plafond de l’Opéra de Paris, text by Jacques Lassaigne, Monte Carlo, André Sauret, 1965. Format in-4 (32.6 × 24.3 cm), 94 pages. Important publication documenting Chagall’s celebrated ceiling for the Paris Opéra, illustrated throughout with numerous, predominantly color reproductions after the artist’s designs. This example is complete as issued, including the original color lithograph and the large folding plate (61.5 × 47.5 cm), printed on both sides and folded in four, reproducing the full ceiling composition. Both elements are preserved in excellent condition, with no tears, losses, or restorations—an essential point, as these components are frequently missing. The volume is bound in the original softcover with illustrated wrappers and retains the original illustrated dust jacket, as well as the original acetate slipcase, all in very well-preserved condition with only minimal signs of handling. This copy is further distinguished by a full autograph inscription by Marc Chagall on the title page, executed in pencil and dated 1975, reading: “Pour Thomas Bangert / Marc Chagall / St. Paul 1975”. The reference to Saint-Paul-de-Vence situates the inscription within the artist’s late period and reinforces its authenticity and contextual importance. Catalogued as Cramer 61; Mourlot 434, this work is a recognized entry within Chagall’s printed oeuvre. Issued without numbering, examples that remain complete (with lithograph and folding plate), preserved with original dust jacket and acetate slipcase, and bearing a dated autograph dedication by Chagall are notably scarcer and represent the most desirable state of this publication.
