Description from the seller
Antique French Bronze Photo Frame with Easel – Rococo Revival – 19th Century (1850–1900)
An elegant antique French photo frame crafted in cast bronze, dating to the second half of the 19th century (circa 1850–1900), executed in the Rococo Revival style.
The frame is richly decorated with flowing scrollwork and features a finely modeled female mascaron at the crest, a characteristic motif of French Rococo-inspired decorative arts. The composition reflects the refined ornamental language popular in France during the 19th century, where classical Baroque influences were reinterpreted with expressive detail and craftsmanship.
The piece is fitted with an integrated easel stand at the reverse, allowing it to be displayed on a tabletop. The back also bears a cast mark, including a star symbol and the number “393”, likely a foundry or model reference.
The surface presents a deep, naturally developed patina consistent with age, with minor wear and oxidation that enhance its authentic antique character. The quality of casting and detailing indicates traditional production methods rather than later industrial manufacture.
Such frames were typically used in refined domestic interiors to display portrait photographs or small artworks, combining functionality with decorative sophistication
