Description from the seller
Elegant satinwood side table in Louis XVI style – Holland, circa 1800 / early 19th century
Finely crafted, round side table made of warm-toned satinwood, a wood species prized for its silky sheen and lively grain. The top is adorned with a subtle geometrically inlaid central medallion and framed by a refined band of concentric stringing, giving the piece a restrained yet dignified appearance.
The slender, tapering legs are characteristic of the Louis XVI style and are gracefully connected by a circular interstice, which not only strengthens the construction but also adds a harmonious line. The contrasting dark stringing in the legs emphasizes the vertical rhythm and testifies to high-quality craftsmanship.
This table embodies the neoclassical vocabulary that was in vogue in the Netherlands around 1800: balanced, refined, and inspired by the clean lines of classical antiquity.
Condition: age- and use-related marks; the lower inner shelf is missing.
Note: pickup only, or use the Brenger.nl delivery service, or have me deliver it for a reasonable fee, only within the Netherlands.
