Description from the seller

Antique wooden side table with turned legs – ca. 1900–1920

Beautiful antique side table crafted from solid wood, dating from the early 20th century (circa 1900–1920). This characterful piece stands out thanks to its elegant, turned legs and refined finish around the top with a decorative edge.

History and origin:
This type of table is characteristic of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, a period when artisanal woodturning was very popular in Europe. The so-called “barley twist” (turned) legs were widely used in England and the Netherlands and were inspired by even older styles from the 17th century. Around 1900 this style experienced a revival within the then-popular historicist revival styles.

Such tables were often used as side tables in drawing rooms or living rooms of the well-to-do middle class, for example for placing a lamp, books or decorative objects. The combination of functionality and graceful craftsmanship made them beloved interior pieces.

The table has a warm, deep wood color and a lovely patina that only develops with the years. The construction is sturdy and stable, with a charming cross-join between the legs that is both functional and aesthetic.

Features:
• Period: ca. 1900–1920
• Material: solid wood
• Style: historicist / revival style
• Condition: good vintage condition, with light signs of use appropriate to the age
• Handcrafted with attention to detail

A atmospheric and authentic piece of furniture with a rich history, that adds character and elegance to any interior.
