Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
Late Medieval silver openwork dress hook depicting a standing female figure to the right, dressed in a long flowing garment, accompanied by stylised foliate decoration to the left.
-> Such dress hooks were used as functional fasteners for clothing, particularly in the 14th–15th century, and often combined utility with decorative and symbolic elements. The combination of figural and foliate ornament reflects the rich visual language of the period, where naturalistic and decorative motifs were closely intertwined.
Size: ± 18,6 x 15,4 mm
Condition: good and solid condition. Signs of wear consistent with age and use.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
Material:
This object has been carefully examined for its material and surface characteristics.
Laboratory analysis (e.g. XRF) is not routinely undertaken in private collecting, and destructive testing is avoided as it causes permanent damage to archaeological material.
Before modern hallmarking, gold and silver alloys varied depending on local resources, recycling practices and economic conditions.
