FDB Møbler - Borge Mogensen - Coffee table - Model 6272 - Teak

Coffee table, model 6272, designed by Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) and manufactured by FDB Møbler, Denmark, circa 1962. Børge Mogensen was one of the most influential furniture designers of the Danish Modern movement. Trained under Kaare Klint at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, he served as head of furniture design at FDB (Fællesforeningen for Danmarks Brugsforeninger — the Danish consumer cooperative) during the 1940s, where he developed his core philosophy: quality furniture should be accessible, functional, and built to last. After establishing his own studio in 1950, Mogensen continued to design for FDB alongside other manufacturers such as Fredericia Stolefabrik. His work is characterised by clean, understated lines, honest use of materials, and a deep respect for traditional craftsmanship — hallmarks that placed him among contemporaries such as Hans Wegner, Finn Juhl, and Arne Jacobsen as one of the defining voices of Danish Modern design. This coffee table exemplifies Mogensen's approach: simple proportions, solid construction, and a quiet elegance that allows the natural beauty of the teak to speak for itself. The table features a generous rectangular top with a lower stretcher shelf, resting on four straight legs connected by a sturdy H-frame base. Specifications: Designer: Børge Mogensen (1914–1972) Manufacturer: FDB Møbler Model: 6272 Country of origin: Denmark Year of production: c. 1962 Material: Teak Dimensions: 159.9 × 54.8 × 55.8 cm (L×W×H) / 63 × 21.6 × 22 in. No repairs or restorations. Please refer to photos for an accurate representation of condition. Marking: Stamped "FDB Møbler" and "Made in Denmark" with production code 62/7/2 (July 1962) on the underside of the frame. See detail photos. Shipping: Shipping available.
