A four‑piece Dutch mid‑century rattan living set in vintage style (1960–1970) comprising a high and a low armchair, a coffee table and a plant stand, with original cushions, in good used condition with minor signs of aging; dimensions approx 93 × 63 × 65 cm for the tall chair, 79 × 55 × 60 cm for the other chair, and 74 × 44 × 39 cm for the coffee table, made in the Netherlands.
Description from the seller
Iconic Dutch post-war design. At the start of the twentieth century there was unemployment in the southeastern corner of Friesland. A German reed-weaver introduced the wicker weaving. Rohé became the leading industry, which was especially popular in the 50s and 60s. There was a housing shortage, adult children lived in attics, and everyone wanted light, slender furniture. Furniture influencers are now buzzing about 'bohemian mid-century' style; 60 years ago it was a solution and a Dutch product! Famous designers were Dirk van Sliedregt and Axel Enthoven. The measurement above is for the tall chair; the smaller one is about 79x55x60. The coffee table measures 74x44x39. The small table measures 60x44x34. With the original cushions. Pickup only. This set is characteristic: a high and a low armchair, the so-called man and wife, a coffee table with originally cloud glass and a lectern/storage cabinet, and a plant table, which often served as a smoking table. All in graceful lines. Note the stamps: proof of authenticity. All in good, used condition. No damage.
