Daum Nancy soliflore, a multistrato glass vase from circa 1905–1910 in yellow, amber, green tones with a bulbous base and a slender neck ending in a four-lobed mouth, signed with the Lorena Cross on the base and featuring acid-etched botanical engraving of Montbretia with hand-painted polychrome enamels and a satin finish, in good used condition with a small base chip.
Description from the seller
Elegant 'solifleur' vase in multi-layered artistic glass, a masterpiece of the prestigious Daum Nancy manufacture, dating from 1905-1910. The vase features a slender bulbous base that culminates in an elegant slender neck with a four-lobed corolla mouth, typical of the floral taste of the era.
The object is a superb testimony to the technical innovations of the École de Nancy:
- Multilayer Glass with Inclusions: the body is made of transparent glass with spectacular inclusions of vitreous powders (vitrifications) in tones of sun yellow and amber, fading to meadow green toward the base, creating a luminous and vibrant ground.
- Acid Etching and High-Fire Enamels: the botanical decoration, depicting Montbretia flowers, was first modeled by acid etching to give relief to stems and leaves. The petals were subsequently hand-painted with multicolored vitreous enamels in shades of orange and fiery red, fixed through a second firing to ensure their everlasting brilliance.
- Satin Finish: the surface was treated with acid to achieve a matte, velvety finish (finition mate), which enhances color depth without unnecessary reflections.
- Author: Daum Nancy (branded with the Lorena Cross, painted in green enamel on the side of the base).
- Era: Circa 1910 (Fully in the Art Nouveau period).
- Condition: Excellent. The vase shows a small nibble on the base. The upper corolla edge is intact and the enamel colors are vivid and perfectly preserved.
The 'solifleur' model with a four-lobed mouth is one of the most loved for its formal elegance. The sunny color combination and the high-quality enameled signature make this specimen a piece of definite interest for any collection of fine French art glass.
