Description from the seller
Greece 1940/1945 - Unique Philatelic Set of 4 Commemorative Postcards: 5th Anniversary of the Liberation of Koritsa - Rare Private Cachet
Unique Historical Curiosity - A Rare Philatelic Connection between 1940 and 1945.
This lot features four (4) original Greek postal stationery postcards (1940 issue, depicting soldiers and the Greek landscape) that were specifically prepared and cancelled to commemorate the 5th Anniversary of the Capture/Liberation of Koritsa (22 November 1940) by the Greek Army.
The Postcards: Original 1940 unissued postal stationery.
The Anniversary Postmark: Each card was officially cancelled at the Pangrati (Athens) Post Office (No. 23) on the exact date of the 5th anniversary: 22.XI.45.
Commemorative Stamps: All cards bear the 1945 "OXI" ('NO") Anniversary stamp (Red Column) and a charity stamp, reflecting the post-liberation era of Greece.
The "Koritsa" Cachet: A large, distinct rectangular cachet reading "ΚΟΡΥΤΣΑ 22-11-1940" (KORITSA 22-11-1940) has been applied. This is a rare private/commemorative marking, likely created by a specialized collector of the era to honor the historic victory.
Excellent (VF/XF) condition. The cards are clean, with sharp corners and no addresses, indicating they were "by favor" cancellations for philatelic preservation.
These items are not recorded in standard catalogues as they represent a private commemorative initiative. The alignment of the 1940 stationery, the 1945 anniversary stamps, and the official postmark of the exact anniversary day (Nov 22) makes this set a remarkable piece of Greek military postal history.
Strong custom made packing, registered shipping.
