Description from the seller
Luis Enrique González presents Cardinalis Cardinalis, a work of notable technical virtuosity within his series of emblematic birds.
In this oil painting, the artist captures with extraordinary precision the imposing figure of the red cardinal, one of the most recognizable symbols of North American birds. The intense scarlet of the plumage unfolds with exceptional chromatic richness, contrasting powerfully with the deep black of the facial mask and the delicate atmospheric treatment of the background in soft lilac and pink tones.
The composition, of great balance and sobriety, stands out for the bird’s penetrating gaze and its elegant posture on the branch, conveying a serene yet vibrant presence. González demonstrates here his masterful command of light, texture, and volume, making the feathers seem to have a life of their own without falling into decorative excess.
This piece represents an excellent example of contemporary high-level realism, ideal for collectors who value technical excellence, visual impact, and timeless elegance in figurative painting.

My work is a constant dialogue between light and form, where oil painting becomes a medium to explore the emotional and symbolic depth of reality. I am interested in nature and the human figure not only as visual motifs but as living territories charged with stories, silences, and tensions. Through realism, I seek to reveal what hides in the everyday: fragility, strength, persistence, and beauty that manifest in gestures, in matter, and in the spaces we inhabit.
Chiaroscuro is, for me, a tool of thinking. Through contrast, I find the internal structure of each image, the atmosphere that allows color to breathe and become protagonist. I work with meticulous observation, trying to ensure each brushstroke preserves the sensitivity of the moment and, at the same time, a permanence that transcends the temporality of the represented object.
My pieces sit at a crossroads between academic tradition and a contemporary perspective, where rigorous technique coexists with a personal expressive search. I paint because I find in oil a space of revelation: a way of understanding the world and at the same time reinventing it through light, texture, and color.
