Description from the seller
Antique and fascinating hand-forged wrought-iron door knocker, dating to the mid-18th century or earlier. The piece presents the classic hand-wrought form, an iconic motif of European architectural tradition between the 17th and 18th centuries, used both as a functional element and as a decorative symbol of prestige on the entrances of historic homes and palaces. The work is fully artisanal: the traces of manual forging are clearly visible, with an irregular, tactile surface that testifies to the ancient smithing process. The iron has developed, over time, a deep and authentic natural patina, which further enhances its character and authenticity. The mechanism is complete and functioning, including the original mounting elements (screws and nuts), ready to install. In the past, small conservation interventions were carried out, respectful of the structure and integrity of the object. The door knocker today presents as solid, stable and with great aesthetic impact. For a better understanding of the final appearance, it has been mounted on an antique walnut beam (not contemporaneous with the knocker), useful to show the effect once installed on a door. Object dimensions: Length: 13 cm; Width: 5 cm; Depth: 5 cm. Through-screws are about 10 cm. Conditions: Good overall condition with original patina. Signs of time and use consistent with the era. Small conservation interventions as described. An architectural element of great charm, ideal for collectors or to enhance entrances and characterful spaces. Supplied with an antique walnut wood panel measuring about 20x10 cm.
