HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
This Triumph TR6, like most examples, was originally delivered in the sunny climate of the United States, by British Leyland Motors San Francisco on January 20, 1970. In 2010 it was exported from California to the Netherlands, where the current owner has had the car extensively and professionally restored. It is plausible that the Triumph California never left its home, as no welding work needed to be performed on the car: it is a very hard and rust-free car with very fine fittings of body panels.
A folder full of documentation accompanies the Triumph, including manuals, maintenance invoices, registration documents and even the original American manual. The Heritage Trust certificate confirms the original status and delivery of the car. In 2022 the TR6 was appraised at a value of €34,000, and the car is verified as quality class 1; “excellently professionally restored condition.” The car is equipped with Overdrive (type 5th gear).
The Triumph enthusiast may recognize the specimen from the photo of the car used on the cover of Triumph Tribune magazine (2023).
EXTERIOR
Truly a sight to behold: the beautiful lines of the TR6 in the lovely broken white color (painted in 2019). Both the paintwork and the chrome, rubbers and lighting are in excellent and fresh condition. The black vinyl soft top is in good condition and can be stored under a small or large tonneau cover.
At the front, Lucas driving lights are installed. Plastic protective covers have been mounted in the fenders to prevent dirt buildup. At the rear a luggage rack is installed. The original tailgate without rack is included with the car. The bodywork of the car is original, damage-free and the gaps are correct. Elegant 15" Minilite alloy wheels, finished in black, are mounted. The tires still have plenty of tread.
INTERIOR
The interior is in good condition and features some improvements. Think of comfortable Mazda MX-5 seats with headrests. The original skai leather seats are present and also in good condition without rips. The dashboard is nicely finished with cherry wood. The door panels are clad in black vinyl.
The Smiths instruments are calibrated and function properly. The interior has original and optional heating, a laminated windshield and an ignition switch. Later, 3-point seatbelts, additional charging points (USB and 12V) and a master power switch were installed. An extra steering lock is supplied (anti-theft). The trunk area is neat and offers space for the spare wheel under the double bottom. The original jack is also present.
TECHNICAL
Technically, the Triumph has also been thoroughly updated: the original engine, gearbox with J-type overdrive and differential have been rebuilt. The cylinder head is lead-free and the compression ratio has been brought to European levels by flattening the head surfaces. In addition, a 123 ignition has been installed in the standard housing.
There is a high-torque starter motor, Sachs clutch, aluminum radiator, modern air filter next to the radiator (washable) and a stainless steel (sport) exhaust mounted. This results in a wonderful sound from the 2498 cc inline-6 engine. The engine bay is clean and a joy to behold: costs and effort have clearly not been spared. The chassis is damage-free and, as far as observable, never welded. Photos of the beautifully looking underside can be seen in our photo report. Extensive documentation of the restoration and engine revision is available. The brake discs have been replaced with upgraded units and Hawk pads have been fitted.
The handbrake operation has been improved and silicone brake fluid has been installed. On the front, adjustable shocks from GAZ are mounted. At the rear, the shocks are part of a Bastuck conversion kit and equipped with Koni dampers. The car runs wonderfully: starting, shifting and braking all operate smoothly and properly.

Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
