Mervyn Kurlansky - 'Watching My Name Go By' - 1974

“The Idea for this book was first conceived by graphic designer Mervyn Kurlansky, partner in the design consultancy, Pentagram, on a brief visit to New York in September 1972. He was so impressed by the recent outbreak of graffiti on subway cars, buses, trucks and buildings that he decided to return to New York specifically to record this phenomenon. He invited photographer Jon Naar to join him and together they explored New York, talking to those responsible and photographing their work. Norman Mailer was approached to contribute a text and this book is a result of their combined efforts.”
