Description from the seller
This icon clearly belongs to the Russian Orthodox tradition and represents a tripartite composition with Christ at the top and three saints below.
General identification
At the top, Christ is shown blessing, within a celestial medallion, indicating His authority over the scene.
Below, three figures of saints with halos:
Center: an elderly monk with a long beard → probably a saintly hermit or starets (spiritual father).
Left: a youth in a light tunic, barefoot → typical of a martyr or saintly innocent.
Right: figure with richer attire → could be a bishop or a noble martyr.
Golden background: symbolizes divine light, not physical space.
Dark and reddish colors: typical of Russian icons from the 17th–19th centuries.
Visible deterioration: craquelure, losses of polychromy, and darkening of the varnish.
Iconographic interpretation
This type of icon usually represents:
A central saint accompanied by other intercessors, forming a small “celestial community.”
The presence of Christ above indicates that the figures are under His blessing and participate in His glory.
