Christofle - Table knife (6) - Steel, Silverplated

Set of 6 dinner knives, with handles in silvered metal and blades in stainless steel, made by Christofle for its Alfénide brand, circa 1900.

The Alfénide brand originally referred to an alloy (so-called “white metal”) imitating silver, composed notably of copper, zinc and nickel, widely used in the 19th century as a base for silvering. The Alfénide manufacturing was acquired at the end of the 19th century by Christofle, which made it a brand for its high-quality silvered metal productions, combining craftsmanship and everyday use.

These knives were re-handled during the 20th century.
