Description from the seller
This mirror is a fascinating piece that features all the characteristics of the Sun or Witch Eye style, very popular in the 1950s and 1960s.
The rays here are thick, stepped geometric shapes, adorned with circular hollowed motifs (bosses). This gives it an almost archaic or tribal look, very close to Brutalist style.
Considering the patina is slightly gold on a red background and the cut, it could be exotic wood or solid beech. The density is an excellent sign of quality, typical of mid-century furniture.
It is gold leaf gilding (or a high-quality gold-painted surface with a red backing). You can see reddish reflections under the gold in some places: this is called the Arménie bowl, a preparation that adds depth and warmth to the gold.
The back of the mirror is clean, with a robust metal mounting system, which confirms that the object is heavy and meant to be a centerpiece on a wall.
Probable origin: European craftsmanship (France, Italy or Spain) in the 1960s-70s
Diameter 59 cm with a maximum thickness of 6 cm. Very dense mirror, thus heavy.
Overall good condition. See photos, they are an integral part of the description.
