Fritz Möritz (1922-1994) - Krabbenfischer

Oil painting “Krabbenfischer” by Fritz Möritz (1922–1994), German painter of the 20th century with a connection to DDR art. It depicts a moody coastal scene with horse-drawn carts, fishermen and boats in shallow water under subdued light. The loose, lightly impressionistic brushwork combined with realistic elements gives the work atmospheric depth and liveliness. Notable are the reflections in the wet sand and the finely tuned color palette.

Oil on canvas, stretched on a stretcher. The back bears pencil inscriptions “Fritz Möritz, Krabbenfischer” and a handwritten “75,” plausibly interpreted as dating 1975. Good age-appropriate condition with slight signs of wear.
