Description from the seller
SICILIA is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This work is a painting built from the desire to open, to traverse, to inhabit the light. The scene is articulated through open doors that not only frame the landscape but turn it into an immediate experience.
The interior, with its warm, ceramic tones, acts as a vestibule. The floor, vibrant and tactile, guides the gaze toward the exterior, where the space expands into a deep, serene blue. That transition—from what is contained to what is open—is the true core of the piece. The table, placed beside the sea, introduces an intimate narrative. The striped tablecloth, the flowers, the glass: all suggest a close presence, a moment prepared to be lived. There is no human figure, but the scene is filled with humanity.
The landscape, simplified yet evocative, is organized in soft layers: the water, the coast, the mountains. It does not seek to describe a concrete place, but to capture a recognizable Mediterranean atmosphere, luminous and tranquil. The vertical elements—the cypress, the leaning tree—bring balance and tension, breaking the horizontality of the sea and guiding the gaze toward the horizon.
Color, as in the whole series, is not accessory: it is structure. The blues, yellows, and reds not only build the space but fill it with emotional warmth.
Sicilia is an invitation to cross the threshold. To sit facing the sea. To let time, simply, pass.
