Acheulean flint tool, kliever, dating to circa 200,000–600,000 BP, from southwest Algeria (Erg Chech) in Africa, measuring 134 by 80 mm and in excellent condition, acquired from a Belgian private collection in 2000 with a previous owner in 1980, legally obtained and accompanied by an authenticity certificate.
Description from the seller
This interesting cleaver was made from flint and dates to the Middle Paleolithic (Acheulean). Cleavers are cutting tools typical of the African Acheulean and are associated with meat processing. This type has at the top a slanted sharp edge that is in perfect condition. They occur much less frequently than regular hand axes. In Europe, cleavers from the Acheulean are also known, but relatively rare.
Origin: from the southwestern part of Algeria. (Erg Chech) Associated with H. erectus in these regions.
No restorations.
Beautiful glossy patina.
