Description from the seller

EGYPTIAN BRONZE STATUETTE FIGURING OSIRIS – LATE PERIOD (664–332 BC) – EXPERTISE BY MARIE-MARGAUX COHEN

DESCRIPTION:

Beautiful Egyptian bronze statuette depicting the god Osiris standing, in a mummiform posture, arms crossed on the chest. The figure wears the Atef crown, partially preserved, with ancient losses at the top. The face, with still-visible features, shows the calm expression typical of late votive productions.

The surface shows a deep brown-black patina, punctuated by areas of green oxidation typical of ancient bronze. A few abrasions and slight surface irregularities attest to its ancient burial.
The statuette is mounted on a modern presentation plinth.
Height: approx. 14 cm.

This type of effigy, standardized yet of fine craftsmanship, belonged to the corpus of votive objects dedicated to Osiris in the great cult centers of Egypt.

HISTORICAL INTEREST AND RARITY:

– Direct testimony of popular piety during the Late Period, a time marked by a very large production of votive bronzes dedicated to Osiris.

– An effigy representing the god of resurrection, associated with funerary practices and the hope of rebirth in the afterlife.

– Fine medium-sized piece (14 cm), more sought-after than the small standardized figurines of a few centimeters.

– Presence of an authentic ancient patina, not restored, reinforcing the archaeological value of the piece.

CONDITION:

Complete object overall, showing:
– wear coherent with age,
– a few small lacunae at the Atef crown,
– a well-stabilized patina,
– traces of ancient green oxidation.

Very good overall condition for a bronze votive statuette of this period.

PROVENANCE:

Former European private collection.
Then renowned house of Master Denis Herbette
Expertized by Marie-Margaux Cohen, recognized expert in archaeology and antiquities.

REMARKS:

This object will be shipped in accordance with current regulations concerning the trade in antiquities. Secure and careful packaging is guaranteed.
