Description from the seller

Antique Carrara apothecary mortar with a coat of arms, probably Northern Italy. Circa 1920–1930. Mortar with on three sides apothecary symbols. On one side a Rod of Asclepius, a serpent around a staff. On two other sides presumably sculptures of Hygieia, goddess of healing and health, and on the other side Panacea, goddess of medicines. Both were daughters of Asclepius, god of medicine. On the fourth side, a regional symbol, probably from the northern part of Italy. In the four corners the mortar is carved with a corded decoration, the bowl is slightly elevated. It is in very good condition, with some small signs of the passage of time that add to the sculpture’s charm. Not shipped outside Europe.
