Parasol Handle in Gilt Silver - Exceptional Rare
French parasol handle in gilt silver (vermeil), dating from the late 19th century (Belle Époque period).
The handle is made of solid silver with rich fire-gilding, preserved in exceptional, near-mint condition. French silver hallmarks are present, including the boar’s head mark, confirming 800/1000 silver fineness, typically used for high-quality luxury accessories.
A maker’s mark is present, struck into the silver before gilding. As the object was subsequently fire-gilded, the gilding partially covers the mark, making it not fully legible, which is consistent with original manufacture and an untouched surface.
The shaft is made of a luxury marbled composition material, lacquered, with an internal wooden core for strength. This refined composite construction was used on superior parasols as an elegant alternative to solid exotic materials.
The handle remains mounted on its original core and has not been dismantled.
Condition: Excellent original condition, no deformation, no modern restoration.
Dimensions: Total length approx. 33 cm; handle length approx. 8 cm; weight approx. 87 g.
A refined example of French luxury accessory craftsmanship from the turn of the century.
