Stool - Beautiful African footstool / stool - Wood - stool

The curved saddle-shaped, the scroll-ed wooden ends and the notched legs are characteristic of the traditional North African camel-saddle stool which was used both functionally and decoratively. This style became enormously popular during the Victorian Orientalist craze.
The underside reveals traditional craftsmanship with spring suspension and jute webbing, indicating a quality frame of older age. The upholstery (white/gold check pattern with tassels) has later been replaced, while the wooden frame is original and of good quality. The dark wood is probably walnut or dark-stained hardwood.
Fabric is beautiful and clean.
Wood shows some signs of wear and two decorative nails are missing on the side.
