Description from the seller
AUSTRIA. Vienna. 2 Schilling. 1930
- Value: 2 Schilling.
- Year: 1930.
- Inscriptions: WALTHER VON DER VOGELWEIDE surrounding the allegorical scene of the medieval poet seated with a lyre and manuscript, with birds in flight and the date at the bottom; on the reverse, REPUBLIK OESTERREICH with the value 2 SCHILLING in the center, surrounded by the heraldic shields of the Austrian provinces.
- Grade: MS63 (NGC).
Austrian commemorative coin dedicated to Walther von der Vogelweide, one of the most important poets and minstrels of medieval Germanic literature. The obverse features a dynamic artistic composition in which the author is represented in an idealized form, accompanied by poetic and natural symbols that reinforce his connection to courtly lyric poetry. The reverse stands out for its heraldic character, showing the regional coats of Austria arranged around the face value, providing notable symbolic and political content. The specimen retains visible original luster, grade MS65, offering an attractive combination of historical, artistic, and numismatic value within the interwar Austrian commemorative series.
