Bookends - Wood, Brass - Victorian Book Slide

A refined late Victorian to Edwardian extending book slide, dating to circa 1900, crafted in mahogany and richly decorated with applied brass mounts and contrasting panels in bone or ivorine (early composite material). The pierced end supports feature elegant scrolling detail with studded ornamentation, while the extending base allows the piece to expand from approximately 33 cm to 58 cm in length, offering both practicality and visual presence. A partially preserved London retailer’s label remains to the underside, adding a layer of historical context and authenticity. The piece displays a warm, aged patina with light wear consistent with age and use, particularly to the brass and interior surfaces, but remains structurally sound and fully functional. A decorative and highly usable desk accessory, representative of quality British craftsmanship from the turn of the 20th century. Measurements listed are that of the piece closed.
