Description from the seller
A decorative pair of antique cast brass fire dogs (andirons), dating to the late 19th to early 20th century, circa 1880–1910. Each is finely modelled with a stylised lion mask terminal above a shaped upright, raised on elegant cabriole supports terminating in paw feet, with projecting billet supports to the rear. The sculptural lion heads and flowing lines reflect the continued popularity of classical and Renaissance revival motifs during the period. Constructed in solid cast brass, the pair displays a rich, naturally developed patina with darker oxidation in the recesses, enhancing the depth of the modelling. Standing 26 cm in height, they are of a versatile size, suitable for both functional use and decorative display. Presented in good antique condition with light surface wear consistent with age and use.
