Important Baccarat Cylindrique wine service in crystal, circa 1907, comprising 10 stemmed glasses with cylindrical bowls and a decanter with a diamond‑cut stopper, all with guilloché engraving and hand‑blown crystal, made in France and dating from 1900–1915, in good condition with minor signs of age.
Description from the seller
Elegant Baccarat Cylindrical Service – circa 1907
Refined dinner set in superior crystal, expression of Baccarat's artisanal craftsmanship. The model, named "Cylindrique," is a French production classic from the early century, here enhanced by a complex high-precision mechanical engraving.
Baccarat, France. Date: 1900 – 1915 (Belle Époque period). Model: Cylindrique Forms (Arts de la Table Catalog). Pattern: Guilloché Engraving (Lathe-engraved). The motif features a double band: an upper interlaced fretwork and a volute frieze ("enroulements") that wraps around the body of the goblet. Technique: Mouth-blown crystal. The guilloché engraving, typical of the early 1900s, requires micrometric precision to achieve perfect symmetry of the circular decorations.
Composition of the Service
The set consists of 11 coordinated pieces:
10 Wine Glasses: Characterized by the typical cylindrical cup with a hemispherical bottom, slender stem with a connecting "bouton" and a flat circular foot. The size is ideal for aged red wines or structured white wines.
1 Wine Bottle (Decanter): Drop-shaped form with a ring-finished neck. The original stopper, hand-cut with diamond facets, completes the silhouette and ensures a perfect seal for aeration of the wine.
As with every Baccarat production before 1936, the pieces bear no acid signature. Attribution is certified by the presence of the model and pattern in the historical catalogs of the "Cristallerie de Baccarat" (see attached comparative table of Guillochée Engravings).
Condition: Superb. The crystal maintains its extraordinary light refraction and the famous metalic, persistent sound, a sign of a high lead content. No chipping or restorations detected.
Why this service is an investment:
Baccarat services with guilloché engraving are among the most sought after on the antique market because they represent the meeting point between classical aesthetics and the industrial technical innovation of the early 20th century. A set of this size (10 goblets + bottle) is a rarity, ideal for a high-end dining table or as a centerpiece in a display case of period crystal.
