Beautiful Swedish corner chair (often called hjørnestol or puderstol) dating from the late 19th century or the early 20th century, with a design characterized by distinctive Gothic Revival elements, such as the pierced backrest with quatrefoil motifs and a velvet-upholstered seat. Originally conceived as toilet chairs or 'powder chairs' (i.e., puderstol), their angular shape made them ideal for placing in the corners of rooms or for creating reading nooks.
