Description from the seller

Released by The Royal Mint in 2015, this Piedfort silver proof Five Pound coin celebrates Queen Elizabeth II becoming the United Kingdom’s longest reigning monarch.

The Queen’s portrait on the Crown’s obverse is a rare commemorative design by James Butler, who made his name as a sculpture but has worked with the Royal Family previously, designing the Great Seal of the Realm in 2001. His design depicts the ‘simple and strong’ crown, framed by two important dates: 1952 and 2015. These are the years Princess Elizabeth was proclaimed Queen and the year she became Britain’s longest serving monarch.

The crown used for Butler’s design is the Coronation crown, worn by The Queen in 1953. In a fitting tribute to her long and prosperous time as Queen, the coin’s edge carries the inscription “LONG TO REIGN OVER US.”
