Description from the seller
Art Deco Wall-Mounted Coat Rack with Mirror and Hat Shelf – France, circa 1920
In excellent condition – No reserve.
A striking and highly characteristic Art Deco wall-mounted coat rack, dating to the 1920s and executed in the refined, functionalist style that emerged in France during the interwar period. This piece perfectly captures the transition from decorative historicism to modern industrial design, strongly reminiscent of early railway interiors such as those of the SNCF.
Crafted in lightweight polished aluminum, the design is both architectural and elegant. The composition is defined by clean horizontal and rounded lines, combined with a practical layout: a generous upper rail for hats, a series of bold circular hook-style supports for coats, and a central tilting mirror element. The adjustable mirror, framed in matching aluminum, adds both functionality and visual depth, enhancing the piece’s strong geometric presence.
The industrial aesthetic, combined with high-quality materials and precise construction, makes this coat rack a true eye-catcher—equally suited for a refined period interior or a contemporary setting seeking a statement piece with authentic provenance.
Dimensions:
33 x 70 x 23.5 cm (h x w x d)
Mirror: 21 x 42 cm
Condition:
In excellent vintage condition. The aluminum frame shows a beautiful, even patina consistent with age. The mirror is intact and displays a refined example of natural foxing, adding depth and historical authenticity to the mirror surface. The frame is sturdy and solid, ensuring safe and stable wall mounting. Structurally sound and ready for use.
A rare and decorative example of early 20th-century French design, combining functionality with timeless Art Deco elegance. A true collector’s piece.
