Description from the seller
THE BLACK ARMCHAIR is a 70x100 cm painting by contemporary artist Ernest García. This work depicts a domestic scene: the black armchair becomes the silent axis of the composition, a common object elevated to protagonism. Its firm, almost graphic structure contrasts with the softness of the floral cushion, whose loose brushstrokes and warm colors introduce an organic counterpoint within an environment of more marked lines.
The space is built through an intense chromatic play: the vibrant red of the walls envelops the scene with an almost enveloping energy, while the blue of the door adds depth and balance. This opposition of primary colors not only dynamizes the image but also reinforces the sense of a living interior, charged with personality.
The secondary elements —the fruits arranged seemingly casually, the objects on the floor, the small table— suggest the recent presence of someone, as if the scene captured a suspended moment in time. There is no human figure, but everything speaks of her: of rest, of pause, of the intimacy of home. The visible, direct, expressive brushstroke gives the work a tactile quality that brings the spectator closer to the pictorial material. Each plane of color is constructed with intention, without losing freshness, which reinforces the spontaneous and emotional character of the piece.
“THE BLACK ARMCHAIR” is not only a representation of an interior corner but an evocation of inhabiting: a space where the everyday acquires symbolic weight, where calm, memory, and presence condensate in a single object that seems to wait, patiently, to be occupied again.
