Description from the seller
Luxor Carbide Bicycle Lantern – Original Vintage Part
Authentic old bicycle lantern from the Luxor brand, a beautiful example of classic lighting used on bicycles in the early to mid-20th century. These lanterns operated through a carbide system, technology very common before the popularization of electric lighting on bicycles.
Made of sturdy metal with a glass front lens, this piece features a natural patina acquired over decades, evidencing its authenticity and history. The large front reflector was designed to amplify the light produced by the carbide reaction, providing efficient illumination for the era.
The lantern also has the original mounting bracket for attaching to the bicycle handlebars, in addition to the characteristic reservoirs of the carbide system, which mixed water and carbide to produce acetylene gas and generate light.
Today, pieces like this are highly valued by collectors of antique bicycles, cycling memorabilia, and vintage industrial decor.
