Description of the item
Up for auction, an authentic piece of Hollywood cinema history: a variable anamorphic projection lens produced by Superscope Inc. of Los Angeles, California.
Developed by brothers Joseph and Irving Tushinsky in 1954, this device marks the golden era of the shift from standard formats to widescreen. Unlike fixed-focus systems, the Superscope allowed the projectionist to manually adjust the image aspect ratio (up to 2:1) via the side control crank and the front graduated scale.
Superscope Inc. is known not only for its optical innovations but also for subsequently acquiring the famous audio brand Marantz.
